by Georgie C. Scott, Maine Coon cat:
A few years ago my mom was asleep on the sofa in the living room. I, being a Maine Coon, have no fears at all. I was up in the loft & decided I wanted to be with my mom & didn't care to go down the stairs. So I jumped from the loft right on to mom's belly, scaring the beejeebers out of her, right awake (which is what I intended all along). I've also jumped off the 3rd floor balcony onto the grass. Hehe....I was trying to catch a bird...the bird won. You should have seen mom's face when she saw me on the grass looking up at her looking down at me....

"Baby" was almost 15 when I had her put down, the day before I got Kali. Well anyway, about 10 years ago, I was sick and lounging on the couch. Viv's mom was still alive and she was leaving to go visit her in the nursing home. She came to check on me before she left. Baby was sitting on the couch next to me. Viv said " you take care of mommy now Baby, 'til I get back." Three hours later Viv returned, Baby was where Viv had left her, on the couch next to me. Baby had NOT moved a whisker, just sat there and watched me.. NAN
I remember from when I was about 8. We lived in Newcastle at the time nice house in the country big huge garden all surrounded by fields etc. Mum and Dad were having central heating put into the house. Workmen were there getting on with the job. We had 2 cats at the time which I had come home from school with one day as kittens from a friend !! We called them Snowy and Lucky. Now my baby sister 2 years old at the time mysteriously went veeerrry quiet while the workmen were doing their thing. Cats also had gone AWOL. I remember my Mum fretting about this however one of the workmen said to Mum "Think you better come see this Mrs" out she went to the garden shed to find my baby sister, the white cat Snowy and a HUGE tin of gloss paint !!! both sis and cat covered !!!! Sis had painted the cat !! OMG what a mess cat had to be rushed to the vet and shaved !! sis bathed in white spirit !! All I could do was cry about my poor wee Snowy !! She survived of course but I was mean to my sis !! Still remind her of it to this day !! FLUFFY
The Tale of Patches All my life I wanted a cat. I was drawn to every cat I saw. A few acquaintances had cats. How I envied them. I pleaded to my parents, “Oh please, just one cat?” But, I knew what their answer would be. Several of my siblings have strong allergies to pet hair and feathers. I knew I was a doomed child…never to know the joys of a warm, furry, purring kitten. My parents were not completely unsympathetic. My father was raised on a farm. And even though my mother was not a pet lover, especially of animals in the house, both realized my desire. But it was out of the question considering the allergy situation. Once, after most of my older siblings were no longer living at home, I happened upon a yard sale where several kittens were being offered to a “good home”. Nestled in the carton was a little calico kitten. It was love at first sight. Bravely, I approached my parents again. After much discussion it was agreed that I could keep “Patches”, but not in the house. Warmer weather on the screened porch, winters in the attached garage. I was ecstatic. Unfortunately, my father soon caught the cat stalking a baby blue jay that had fallen out of its nest. I went to the bird’s rescue, carrying it back towards the nest on a tennis racket I still don’t know why no one warned me about the mother bird swooping down from behind me. She landed on my head and started pecking it. I dropped the racket, she saved her baby and Patches was spared the label of “bird killer”. As the weather cooled, I realized that Patches was not happy in the garage. I did not spend enough time with her once school began, and really knew very little about how to care for a cat. My siblings avoided her completely. Then one day the cat was gone. I felt awful. But it was an experience I never forgot. At that time I was not ready to devote myself to any pet. I often wonder what happened to Patches. I sure hope that she found that good home she deserved. By got2gr8cats
